What is Jacuzzi and whirlpool tub refinishing?
Jacuzzi and whirlpool tub refinishing — also called reglazing or resurfacing — restores the surface of a jetted tub without removing it. Jetted tubs are oversized acrylic or fiberglass shells with air or water jets, a pump and a motor underneath, usually set into a tiled deck. They go dull, discolor around the jets and pick up stains that will not scrub out. The jets, fittings and trim are masked, the surface is repaired and etched, and the finish is sprayed in multiple coats.
These tubs went into the master bathrooms of homes built from the 1980s through the 2000s, so they are common across Orange County, the Tri-Valley, the Inland Empire and the larger homes of Los Altos, Saratoga and Marin. Most are acrylic, which means the shell scratches, yellows and crazes the same way any acrylic tub does, only over a much larger surface. A few older ones are fiberglass and are treated like any fiberglass tub.

What is different for jetted tubs
A whirlpool is an acrylic tub with a lot of hardware in the way. Three things change on the job.
Jets, trims and covers
Every jet trim, air control, suction cover and grab bar is removed or carefully masked before prep begins, then reinstalled once the finish has cured. Nothing is sprayed into the jet plumbing.
Prep suited to acrylic
Most jetted shells are acrylic, so the wash and etch are adjusted to the material: strip residue and degloss so the primer bonds, without attacking the acrylic sheet. Scratches, crazing and worn spots are filled first.
A larger surface, quoted by size
A garden or whirlpool tub can have twice the surface of a standard alcove tub, plus a wide deck lip, so these are quoted by size rather than at a flat rate.
