The Service

What is tile shower refinishing?

Tile shower refinishing — also called reglazing or resurfacing — restores the tile and grout inside your shower instead of tearing it out. We deep-clean the enclosure, repair cracked or missing grout and chipped tile, etch and prime, then spray a commercial-grade coating over walls, niche and curb that seals every grout line and leaves the stall smooth, glossy and uniform. It is the shower-specific version of our tile & wall refinishing service.

Benefits

Why homeowners choose refinishing

A like-new tiled shower for a fraction of the cost, mess and downtime of a full re-tile.

60–70% less than re-tiling

A fraction of what demolition, new tile and labor add up to.

Finished in one day

Most tiled showers are coated in a few hours and back in use in about 24 hours.

Grout that finally stays clean

Sealed grout lines mean mildew and soap scum wipe off instead of soaking in.

Cracks and missing grout repaired

Damaged grout and chipped tile are fixed before coating, never painted over.

Modern color options

Pink, avocado, almond or blue 4x4 tile updated to crisp white or a color of your choice.

Glossy, uniform finish

Tile and grout become one smooth, non-porous surface that looks and feels new.

No demolition required

Your tile, backer board and plumbing stay exactly where they are.

What We Fix

The problems tile shower refinishing solves

Most tiled showers we see are structurally fine. It is the grout, the color and a few cracks that make the bathroom feel old — exactly what refinishing addresses.

Grout that never comes clean

Cement grout is porous, so soap, minerals and mildew soak in and scrubbing brings it back for a week at most. Refinishing bonds a non-porous coating over tile and grout together, turning the wall into one sealed surface that wipes clean.

Dated colors and 4x4 ceramic

Pink, baby blue, avocado, harvest gold and almond 4x4 ceramic went into California bathrooms by the millions from the 1970s through the 90s. The tile is usually sound; only the color is tired. We update it to bright white or a modern neutral without changing the layout.

Cracked, crumbling or missing grout

Before any coating goes on, loose or missing grout is raked out and re-grouted, hairline cracks are filled and sanded flush, and the corners and tub-to-tile seam are re-caulked. Coating over damaged grout would only hide it for a season; repairing it first is what makes the finish last. Repairs are quoted upfront.

The shower floor and pan

A tiled shower floor or a fiberglass base can be refinished with the walls in the same visit. Floors take more abuse than walls, so we inspect them separately and offer a slip-resistant texture on request. See shower pan refinishing for what refinishing does and does not fix on a floor, and tile floor refinishing for the bathroom floor itself.

What we check at your free estimate

Tile that is firmly bonded, with no loose pieces

Grout condition — stained, cracked or missing sections

Soft spots in a fiberglass base — repaired with an inlay

Caulk and seams at the curb, corners and tub

A drain leaking below the pan — a plumbing repair, not a coating job

Whether the bathtub should be refinished on the same visit

Our Process

5 Simple Steps to a Like-New Finish

Our proven process has been refined over 10 years to deliver consistent, stunning results every time.

*Repairing chips, cracks and other damage may carry an additional cost, quoted upfront before we begin.

01

Inspect & Clean

~30 min

We inspect the fixture and deep-clean the surface to remove soap scum, body oils and residue.

02

Acid Wash

~20 min

An acid wash strips and opens up the surface so the new coating can bond permanently.

03

Surface Refinishing

~90 min

The heart of the job, done in three stages. Repair: every chip, crack and worn spot is filled and repaired for a smooth, solid base. Sanding & surface prep: the entire surface is sanded and prepped so the new finish grips and lasts for years. Deep wash: a final deep wash removes every trace of dust and residue so nothing interferes with the coating.

04

Prime Coating

~30 min

A bonding primer is applied as the foundation for a durable, lasting finish.

05

Reglaze

~60 min

Multiple coats of commercial-grade coating are sprayed on for a smooth, glossy, like-new finish.

Aftercare

Cleaning, curing and living with refinished tile

The first two days and a few habits afterwards are what keep the finish glossy for years.

The cure window

Ready for a first shower about 24 hours after we leave. Give it the full 24–48 hours we specify at the appointment before hot water, and about a week before a caddy or mat goes back in. Keep the room ventilated while it cures.

How to clean it

Use a non-abrasive liquid cleaner and a soft cloth. Skip scouring powders, scrub pads, bleach or acid-based products — they dull any gloss finish. A quick wipe after showers keeps the grout lines spotless.

What to avoid

Do not stick suction cups, adhesive hooks or non-slip appliqués to the finish; they can pull the coating when removed. Call us if a chip ever appears — most can be touched up. Full instructions are in our aftercare guide.
