The Difference Between Refinishing and Reglazing

If you've researched restoring a worn bathtub or sink, you've probably seen the terms refinishing and reglazing used side by side. The good news: they describe essentially the same process — bringing a tired, stained or chipped surface back to a smooth, glossy, like-new finish without replacing it.

So what's the difference?

In practice, the two words are used interchangeably in the industry. "Reglazing" tends to emphasize the final glossy coating that mimics the original factory glaze, while "refinishing" refers to the full process — cleaning, repairing, sanding, priming and applying the new finish. Some companies also use "resurfacing" for the same service.
