Porcelain Sink Refinishing & Reglazing

Chipped, crazed or stained porcelain and vitreous china sinks — pedestal, wall-hung and drop-in — restored to a bright, glossy white in a single visit, with the sink and plumbing left in place. The Service

What is porcelain sink refinishing?

Porcelain sink refinishing — also called reglazing or resurfacing — restores the glazed surface of your existing bathroom sink instead of replacing it. We repair chips and crazing, strip out calcium and hard-water staining, etch the old glaze so the new coating bonds, and spray a smooth, glossy finish that looks like new porcelain.

Vitreous china and porcelain-enameled cast iron refinish exactly the same way. It is the same process we use on bathtubs, which is why so many customers have the sink done in the same visit as the tub and end up with one matching white. Our general sink refinishing page covers cultured-marble and acrylic sinks too.

Our Process

5 Simple Steps to a Like-New Finish

Our proven process has been refined over 10 years to deliver consistent, stunning results every time.

*Repairing chips, cracks and other damage may carry an additional cost, quoted upfront before we begin.

01

Inspect & Clean

~30 min

We inspect the fixture and deep-clean the surface to remove soap scum, body oils and residue.

02

Acid Wash

~20 min

An acid wash strips and opens up the surface so the new coating can bond permanently.

03

Surface Refinishing

~90 min

The heart of the job, done in three stages. Repair: every chip, crack and worn spot is filled and repaired for a smooth, solid base. Sanding & surface prep: the entire surface is sanded and prepped so the new finish grips and lasts for years. Deep wash: a final deep wash removes every trace of dust and residue so nothing interferes with the coating.

04

Prime Coating

~30 min

A bonding primer is applied as the foundation for a durable, lasting finish.

05

Reglaze

~60 min

Multiple coats of commercial-grade coating are sprayed on for a smooth, glossy, like-new finish.

Common Problems

What we fix on porcelain sinks

Porcelain is hard but brittle, and a bathroom sink lives in a wet, mineral-rich environment. These are the problems we see every week.

Chips, nicks and crazing

Dropped bottles and hair tools chip the rim and the bowl around the drain; old glaze crazes into a web of hairline cracks that trap dirt. Both are cosmetic. Chips are filled and sanded flush, crazing is sealed, and the new coating covers it all. A crack that runs through the sink and leaks is different: refinishing seals a surface, it does not hold a broken sink together.

Calcium, hard water and stains

California water is hard. Mineral deposits build at the drain and under a dripping faucet, etch into worn glaze and leave it dull, rough and porous, so rust, hair dye and cosmetics soak in. We strip the scale, repair the etched glaze and seal the surface so deposits and spills wipe off instead of bonding. See why sinks get calcium stains.

Matching the sink to a refinished tub

The most common porcelain sink job is the one done with the tub. A porcelain tub and a porcelain sink are refinished with the same coating in the same white on the same visit, so the bathroom stops being three shades of almond. See bathtub refinishing and color change refinishing.

Care after refinishing

No water for 24 hours, then non-abrasive cleaners only. Bathroom and vanity sinks carry our written 2-year warranty against peeling and coating failure under normal use; chips from impact are not covered, so treat the rim as you would new porcelain.

Pricing

How much does porcelain sink refinishing cost?

Most sinks cost between $250 and $500 — a fraction of a new sink plus removal and re-plumbing. Here’s how it compares.

See our California refinishing cost guide →

A standard drop-in bowl sits at the low end; a pedestal refinished inside and out, or a sink with heavy crazing and calcium damage, lands higher. Refinished on the same visit as the bathtub, it is quoted as part of the same job. Text us a photo for an exact price, usually the same day.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

With proper care, a refinished porcelain sink lasts 5–10 years. Bathroom and vanity sinks are backed by our written 2-year warranty against peeling and coating failure under normal use.

Yes. Crazing is cosmetic — a network of hairline cracks in the glaze, not in the sink body. We fill and seal it under the new coating so it disappears.

Yes. We strip the mineral scale, repair the glaze it has etched and seal the surface. Because the refinished sink is non-porous, future deposits wipe off instead of bonding to it.

Yes. Pedestal, wall-hung and console sinks are refinished in place, pedestal included. The plumbing is never disconnected.

Yes — it is the most common request. We refinish the sink and tub with the same coating in the same white on the same visit, so they match exactly.

About 24 hours. Keep the sink completely dry during the cure, including drips from the faucet, and use non-abrasive cleaners from then on.

Absolutely. Almond, pink, blue or green to bright white is the usual request, and custom colors can be matched to your tile or tub.

Bathroom and vanity sinks carry a written 2-year warranty against peeling and coating failure under normal use. Kitchen sinks carry 6 months. Chips from impact are not covered.
