Reading the countertops photos

Countertop refinishing covers laminate and Formica, cultured marble, tile and grout, and solid-surface counters. This set leans toward tile: square ceramic tile with grout lines on kitchen counters, islands and backsplashes, in white, teal, tan, pink and dark brown. It also includes double-sink cultured-marble vanities, plain laminate kitchen runs and one granite-pattern kitchen counter.

In the Before frames the tile counters show grout lines that have darkened to gray, brown or black, and colors that date the kitchen. The vanities show staining and dullness around the bowls. Because several counters were photographed as work began, some Before frames already show painter's tape and masking film around the edges and cabinets.

In the After frames the counter is a single smooth white surface. On tile, the grout lines are sealed beneath the coating: you can still see the tile grid, but the surface is flat and wipes clean. Several After photos were taken with the masking still up, before the cabinets and appliances were uncovered.
